What is The Room of Animal Books?
We—along with all animals—live together aboard this spaceship called Earth. Though animals possess traits different from ours, they also share a certain resemblance to us. One thing that gives us a chance to reflect on these similarities and differences is books. The animals that live within the pages of books are not limited to the actual passengers of spaceship Earth. Even when they are, they often embody our own traits more vividly—or sometimes combine the characteristics of entirely different passengers altogether.
Have you ever found yourself reflecting on the many forms in which “animals” appear within books? Our event, “The Room of Animal Books”, invites everyone to bring along a book about animals—one that holds fond memories for you, or that left a strong impression. We’ll place all the books together on the tables, allowing participants to browse, share their thoughts, and discover new favorites through each other’s recommendations.
Animal books should not only feature animals, but also artificial animals: animal characters, anthropomorphic beings (such as furries and anthros), fantastical creatures (cryptids), and other creatures (monsters). Novels, mangas, and picture books are all fine. Any language is fine, too.
For owner verification, we will hand out a form* and lend a pen at the desk when you display your book. Please write (1) the title, (2) your favorite part(s), (3) your name, and (4) OK/NG to read, and then place it next to your book. Please note that the sheets will be collected when you finish exhibiting and leave the room.
* The sheets can be downloaded in advance from [this link]. Please print them out on A4 paper for use.
For the book display, we would appreciate it if everyone could keep the following points in mind.
- Owners must understand that people may touch their book.
- Participants must handle the books with sincere care.
- It is prohibited to bring books that violate JMoF’s participation policy or the convention hotel’s regulations, etc.
